Outline
Ryan Bingham is a business man who has to travel all over America for work. You may think that this sounds like a nice job, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. His job is to layoff employees when the bosses don’t want to do it themselves! Ryan has set himself a new goal in life, to clock up 10 million frequent flyer miles. Along the way, he meets a fellow frequent flyer. Could this spell romance for the businessman? Well, you will have to watch Up In The Air yourself to find out!
Actors
The most recognizable actor in this film would have to be the leading man George Clooney who, of course, plays Ryan Bingham. The part of Ryan Bingham in this movie was written specifically for Clooney himself, and if you watch Up In The Air, then you will see why as he fit’s the role perfectly. He brings the movies theme, the value of human connections, right to the forefront of the movie, and has somewhat of an old fashioned style of acting that fits this role perfectly. The chemistry between Clooney’s character and leading lady Alex Goran, played by Vera Farmiga is electric, which proves the reasoning behind the writer’s decision to write these parts specifically for these two actors.
Genre
Up in the air is a comedy drama. The balance between the comical moments, and then the more serious ones has been put just right. There are some very funny moments that will make you laugh, but then there are some very touching moments that are likely to bring a tear to the eye! George Clooney has a very clever way of bringing certain emotions to the screen, and this movie really shows off this fact. A lot of the actors in this movie have some great one liner and funny moments too, as well as more serious ones.
Length
At 109 minutes long, I couldn’t help feeling that it wouldn’t have done the movie any damage to have been a little longer. However, the full story was told with nothing missing, and had it been too long, the movie would have dragged out as there was nothing left to the story by the end. If it had been shorter than 109 minutes the, Up In The Air would have been totally ruined, as bits would have been missing and it wouldn’t have come across so well.
Based On
Up In The Air is based on the book of the same title by Walter Kirn. Whilst there are clearly some differences, the majority of the story is kept in theme with the story from the book. The writer of the movie already had his actors in mind for the parts before he wrote the script.
Persoanl Opinion
Up In The Air exceeded my expectations. I was expecting a boring film with a storyline that just wouldn’t be to my taste. However, the storyline is actually brilliant, and the actors all work together amazingly. If you are a fan of comedy drama films then you really should watch this movie. It’s great. There are some really comical moments, and more serious ones that balance each other out perfectly, and the length is just right. Also, if you are a George Clooney film then Up In The Air is a must see!
